Description Patricio Molina 2012-07-14 17:26:54 UTC
Wikimedia Iberocoop (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Iberocoop) needs a namespace in Meta, to publish relevant information about our activities. Our main goal is to increase transparency with the Wikimedia community through Meta.

Thanks

None of the other chapters have this..

> None of the other chapters have this..

It's not for a chapter, it's for a group of chapters. We already had two annual encounters financed by the Foundation: one in Buenos Aires and another in Santiago de Chile, gathering almost thirty members representing 12 chapters. Please refer to Meta for more information in http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Iberocoop

The idea is to publish information about Iberocoop in Meta instead of http://www.iberocoop.org/, which will increase the publicity of our decisions to the community.

Is there a local consensus on meta. you should have a namespace instead to use subpages?

There is consensus in Wikimedia Iberocoop, and this solution was proposed by a representative from Wikimedia Italia, should we do a request on Meta?
Comment 5 Alex Monk 2012-07-16 15:45:57 UTC
This can't go ahead without support from Meta, so yes.

Where's the place to ask for this? I couldn't find it on http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meta:Requests_and_proposals#For_Meta

You could ask on https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Forum

You could ask on https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meta:Babel

Ignore this, I made a copy/paste error, Wikimedia Forum is for Wikimedia projects related discussions.

Isn't category enough?

We're already using a category, but using a namespace will be much more effective for arranging information from Iberocoop. We want to avoid sub-pages scattered all over Meta without a common criteria.

This discussion doesn't belong to the bug tracker, as it's not a technical one, but a community one.

Please explain all these elements at the following URL:

Comment 12 Patricio Molina 2012-07-17 19:35:19 UTC
I've made the request in https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meta:Babel#Namespace_for_Iberocoop_in_Meta
Comment 13 Nemo 2012-07-30 16:29:11 UTC
After two weeks of discussion, there's a consensus on Meta:Babel, see URL (only one user mildly against): adding shell keyword and requesting to go on.

Please ask at [[m:WM:RFH]] to have your pages imported from your wiki after the namespace is enabled. I can do this for you, otherwise I suggest to ask one of the NWI <https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AGlobalUsers&username=&group=New_wikis_importer&limit=500> who are used at editing XML dumps etc.
Comment 14 Osmar Valdebenito 2012-09-18 21:36:26 UTC
Pages from old Iberocoop wiki won't be moved, mostly because of privacy issues. But we will create new pages for open discussions in Meta.

As far as I can see, the namespace is not available yet, can you create it?
Comment 15 Dereckson 2012-09-22 21:06:25 UTC
Yes, I'm going to prepare the config change.

Taking this bug.

Verified, namespaces are there.

Test procedure:
Checked through API - https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&meta=siteinfo&siprop=namespaces|namespacealiases
