Currently we use the Android 2.x-style menu, which is invisible until triggered by the menu key. This causes the back-compat menu button to show on Android 3/4/4.1, which isn't very pretty. We should switch to either using a real ActionBar or displaying the menu in a similar style, with a vertical "..." button on the upper-right-corner of the bar. Note that in theory at least, if there *is* a physical menu button we shouldn't show the overflow menu in the bar, but should let it be triggered by the menu button and act like in 2.x -- we should check whether we want to do that or just go fancy-style since it looks nicer.
IMO we should just switch to a Real ActionBar - if we switch to a js based action bar, we'll have to keep them separate for iOS and Android. If we're keeping them different, why not go all the way anyway? /me pushes for a general direction more towards native
Future native app will use either a real ActionBar or something else (side slide-in menus), and will be native. :) CLosing out for phonegap app
