In [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Help:Sorting&oldid=504555177#Examples current page as of 31 July 2012], all examples except three of the currency examples sort as text, even though many of them are labeled numerical and one is labeled as currency. The three that sort as currency are the ones with $, €, and £. The ¥ sorts as text. I have verified this behavior on Windows 7 Professional running IE9 and Chrome20. NONE of the examples sorts numerically. Its possibly you need to sort them a few times to activate the bug, so click on sort many times if you are not initially seeing the error.
The reason for 'the ¥ sorts as text' is described in bug 39284.
The bug is RESOLVED. (I can not change the Status.)
