And..... End up messing up the interface !! Yes there apparently were some warnings on the way. But along with all the other verbiage we only notice what happened when it is too late! So normal users now have to research how to fix their interface back up.
To users falling into the same trap, try title=MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown&action=delete to clean up the damage.
I stress this is the right place to edit the links. Visually, the link is in a smaller font. Please see with your text browser team how to better show the elements size, as font size is a relevant element of usability. Semantically, "edit deletion reasons" (note reasons with a plural) gives an immediate understanding it's to edit the default reasons, especially because there is already an "Other/additional reason" field above. Personal experience. On the French Wikipedia were I'm sysop, I used this link to add a reason.
You never know what kind of device they are using, so how the font looks is not guaranteed. Mainly I cannot think of anywhere else in MediaWiki where editing the interface is so exposed. One would expect that only on some Special: page. Mixing links to edit something, and also the interface itself, all on the same page, is too dangerous. Maybe there could be a preference that admins could set if they want such links next to each item.
This page belongs to power users, having the right to delete a page, not to newbie contributors. I beg to differ, in this context, it seems to me this is the more natural place to edit the interface. Any other places would be lost in the swarm of MediaWiki: messages. I understand the use of a text browser is a limiting factor, and before replying you, I tested it under links and lynx but the grammar and the item position (AFTER the submit button) help to understand it's an extra. * * * This preference would be something like $wgShowDeleteReasonsLinkOnDeletePage in LocalSettings.php. That will be lost too in a documentation. Could you confirm us you've a real need we implement this change, like a running wiki where you would like to set this setting to false? [ Taking this bug and pondering if it would be or not valuable to implement a preference here. ]
It should more likely be $wgAddEditButtonsToAllOccurancesOfInterfaceMessages No never mind. Not to many Sysops are as old and in a hurry as me.
