Description spage 2012-08-29 02:38:25 UTC
I read http://blog.wikimedia.org/2012/02/09/scaling-media-storage-at-wikimedia-with-swift/ . It ends with
  3 Responses to “Scaling media storage at Wikimedia with Swift”

but there are no responses shown. The commentlist in HTML is empty,
 <ol class="commentlist"> </ol>

I'm not sure how many blog posts have this problem. Recent blog posts seem OK. I found http://blog.wikimedia.org/2012/02/05/who-are-wikipedias-donors/ that says "11 Responses" but only two are visible. A comment on that suggest it had lots of spam postings that were later removed, so maybe all three responses were spam. So maybe when spam comments are removed the counter doesn't change.

Did you check in the comments table what the issue is?

We could have:
* comments are not published
* deleted comments are still counted as published comments (this is my best guess)

In the second case, we could resync the number of comments with a quick script.

S: Could you answer comment 1?

Marking as duplicate of Bug 56308. As Nemo already conjectured there, the discrepancy is because of pingbacks, which are hidden but still counted. This issue should become obsolete with the launch of the redesigned blog in a couple of weeks.
