Description Rainer Rillke @commons.wikimedia 2012-09-13 11:27:56 UTC
If Bugzilla or the MW-version/config of Bugzilla would be a good piece of software, I could simply enter my preferred browser (e.g. newest release version of Opera shipped through auto-update), OS, Wiki in my user profile so I don't would have to include it into each bug report.

If one could also include how one is related to mw/bugzilla/WMF, this would add additional value because you would know to whom you are talking to. It is called "socialising".

If I get it right for the "Web browser" custom field this requires fixing https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=351899 first, however in my opinion either Bugzilla or more likely your browser should just cache the value that you set last time (this is how it already works for the "Version" field) instead of creating a user-visible setting for this - same outcome. Not sure why it does not work for the "OS" field.
Hence renaming this ticket to be more specific.

> If one could also include how one is related to mw/bugzilla/WMF

Please make this a separate ticket - this would be totally different downstream customization code. Thanks!

Generally I don't think the web browser and browser fields should be used unless the bug is specific to only one.

+1: This was not what I was asking for. So I am unsure, should I now create 2 new bugs?
Comment 4 Andre Klapper 2012-09-13 22:22:56 UTC
What you originally asked for (having a Browser default setting in the user preferences sounds very likely like a WONTFIX to me for the reasons mentioned in comment 1.

When entering a new bug, my local installation of Bugzilla auto-detects the OS and browser but this here doesn't.
