I've followed the documentation stating to replace the content of "Privacy Policy" page (:Privacy_policy) and "Disclaimers" page (:General_disclaimer) with a single minus to remove them from the footer line, but this is not working for me.
Which documentation? Link?

Just to clarify, are you editing the target pages (The page "Privacy_policy", or their mediawiki messages ( the page "MediaWiki:Privacy" )? You need to be editing the mediawiki messages (the pages starting with "MediaWiki:"), and comment 0 makes it sound like you were editing the page "Privacy_policy".
Dear Brian Indeed you are correct - I was editing the pages the links took me to, i.e. Short_Name_of_my_Wiki:Privacy_Policy and Short_Name_of_my_Wiki:Disclaimers When I goto MediaWiki:Privacy and change the content to a single minus, the link disappears. Same for editing MediaWiki:Disclaimers. Perhaps try update the documentation to be clearer on what needs to be edited. Please close this as it's not a bug, just a silly user issue :-)
