Description Daniel Zahn 2012-10-18 03:25:26 UTC
Hi,

i keep noticing how in Gerrit logs it appears as if i was using 2 separate users or sometimes my short and sometimes my long name is displayed. For example if you look at:

https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/gitweb?p=operations/apache-config.git;a=summary

you'll see some "Dzahn" and some "Daniel Zahn" in the log.

Or if you compare: gitweb?p=operations/puppet.git;a=search;s=Daniel+Zahn;st=author and r/gitweb?p=operations/puppet.git;a=search;s=dzahn;st=author which will show both.

Ideas how this might happen?

I am using one Gerrit/Labs user account, i have one key in Gerrit and my Username and Fullname are both the short version in my gerrit profile. Also changes made on the same computer with the same setup seemed to be different. In LDAP (on formey) i see: cn: Dzahn and givenName: dzahn.

I don't think Gerrit actually cares what user.name is set to when committing/authoring, only the e-mail address.

In theory (I haven't tested), you could set user.name to "Foobar" and as long as user.email was "dzahn@wikimedia.org" then it would still match to the user account (which is indeed Dzahn).

I don't really think it's a bug....

Was never really a bug.
