Compare the date reported here:

with that reported here:

Somehow, a four digit number turns into a six digit one! This is causing problems with date conversions, etc on Commons and other projects.

{{formatnum}} template is not the same as the {{FORMATNUM:1234}} magic word...

Ah, didn't pay attention to the lack of a colon. Turns out the problem is due to using #time for formatting digits:
