Description Mohamed Ahmed 2012-10-24 19:34:22 UTC
We need to change the logo of the Arabic Wikipedia in celebration of reaching the 200,000 article milestone. Previously this was done by uploading a new version of the logo to File:Wiki.png. I have been told that what is needed to be done is changing wgLogo to $stlogo.
Comment 1 Andre Klapper 2012-10-24 23:09:35 UTC
[Moving to "Wikimedia" product as this request is about settings / configuration of the website, not about the codebase of the MediaWiki project.]
Comment 2 Alex Monk 2012-10-25 16:47:43 UTC
Couldn't you just ask a commons admin to upload the celebration logo to [[commons:File:Wikipedia-logo-v2-ar.png]] ?

You could ask, and a commons admin would technically be able to do so, however that's now how things go.

That file represents the Arabic translation of the Wikipedia v2 logo. Not "the logo currently shown ar.wikipedia.org".

I'd recommend uploading your celebration logo to Commons and requesting the shell change to update the file name during the celebration. That way it will be properly licensed and archived in Commons (instead of only locally and disappear into a black hole after the celebration is over).

@Mohamed: Please upload it as a new file to Commons and share the link here so we can configure it for you.

I have uploaded it already, here http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wikipedia_Arabic_Logo_200,000.png Thanks in advance.

Adding Dereckson and Reedy in cc. They can usually make this happen pretty quickly. Added prio high, because celebration logos are usually time sensitive.
Comment 6 Dereckson 2012-10-28 20:20:34 UTC
Logo protected on Commons.

Log extract:
Protected File:Wikipedia Arabic Logo 200,000.png: Used in the interface : ar.wikipedia celebration logo (‎[edit=autoconfirmed] (indefinite) ‎[move=sysop] (indefinite) ‎[upload=sysop] (indefinite)

The Arabic Wikipedia has reached 205,000 articles. Please, change the logo back to it's usual form!
