Description Subhashish Panigrahi 2012-10-28 05:55:54 UTC
Hi, we are doing a workshop in Pune and the IP address block doesn't allow us to create more than 6 user accounts. Please release 14.140.227.67 from IP block.

IP addresses are limited to 6 accounts per day by the wiki software. You need to contact the wiki you're trying to create accounts on, many wikis have a process in place where this limit can be bypassed.

Closing as a WONTFIX, as this really isn't a technical issue and should be handled elsewhere.

There is http://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/throttle.php.txt where similar requests may be handled.

Subhashish: Please provide exact time info (from when to when) and for how many accounts.

These types of requests are normally handled under Wikimedia > Site configuration, so bugzilla.wikimedia.org seems like a totally valid place.

Hi Andre, thanks for replying back. I actually assumed this would be resolved in real time, i.e. when I posted this bug. The event is over. So you can close this bug. But, going forward do let me know what is the quickest solution for releasing the 6 user account creation hurdle.

You should always make this kind of request hours before the event. That said, Matthew Broker was wrong to close this.
You must specify:

The wiki name(s) (domain name(s), database name(s), whatever).
When the event starts, including timezone.
When the event ends, including timezone.
What the limit needs to be raised to (e.g. 75 accounts).
The IP(s).
A link to the details for the event.

If you think such a request has gone unnoticed and the event is about to start, go to #wikimedia-tech on freenode and someone should be able to help (hopefully).
