If the search box is empty, it displays "uls-search-placeholder". Maybe that's a mediawiki message that needs to be defined, but if so, it needs a default value (and be hidden if it doesn't exist?)

The message is defined, even translated often. There is still some flakey with loading the json files containing translations which we are investigating.
