When an item A contains some link A', and then gets deleted, and a new item B get the link A' added, the previous item A can't be restored. In this case the restore operation should offer to remove the offending link so the restore operation can proceed.

I've been thinking about this some more. When you restore it should go back to that version. This should be the exact same version that you are trying to restore. If this is hindered by a sitelink then it needs to be removed from the other item first.
