Description Nemo 2012-11-19 11:08:52 UTC
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_activity.cgi?id=28513 proves that the current "Statistics" component used to be "Usage statistics", referring to domas/midom's pageviews stats aka http://dammit.lt/wikistats/ aka wikistats.
It has recently been renamed to "Statistics" and its description changed to "The usage statistics at https://stats.wikimedia.org/", but both are wrong given the content (although some WikiStats reports have been moved here).
[Ww]iki[Ss]tats? is a very common name but only stats.wikimedia.org seems to officially use WikiStats, so to reflect reality it would be enough to change the name to "WikiStats and usage statistics" (incorporating the old name) and the description to "The statistics at https://stats.wikimedia.org/ and the page view statistics hosted at http://dumps.wikimedia.org/other/pagecounts-raw/".
To clarify one could also call them "Erik's WikiStats" and "Domas' (stats|wikistats|pageviews stats)".

There's also a separate report for future-proof improvements to statistics-related components; this is only meant to reflect current state in a correct and understandable way.

CC'ing Diederik for input.
Might be solved together with bug 42088.
Comment 2 Diederik van Liere 2012-11-19 17:46:00 UTC
I really don't have a strong opinion on how to name things, I think most importantly is that all stats / metrics / reporting / data about Wikimedia and associated projects should be under the Analytics product so it becomes much easier to find. Right now it is distributed over too many different products / components.
Comment 3 Andre Klapper 2012-12-03 14:09:22 UTC
I didn't go for renaming but moved the entire "Wikimedia -> Statistics" component to "Analytics -> Wikistats" as requested in bug 42088.

I've queried for "pagecounts-raw" and found two reports. 38604 is after investigating reasons for stats (hence nothing related to the codebase but to data shown) and I've moved 42585 to "Datasets -> General/Unknown".

Issues regarding dumps.wikimedia.org/other/pageviews/ should go to "Datasets -> Webstatscollector".

If I've missed something, please reopen.
