Description Ralph Giles 2012-12-17 23:29:23 UTC
We've had a complaint from Firefox users about webm video not playing back. The issue seems to be that the the file is being served with a mime type of 'text/plain' which will cause Firefox to reject the file.

The problem url is http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0c/Experience_ubuntu.ogg/Experience_ubuntu.ogg.360p.webm from http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu#Philosophie

The issue seems to occur only for some hosts, so perhaps it depends on the commons server in question. I see 'audio/webm' (still incorrect, since it's a video, but sufficient for the video to play) here in Vancouver, Canada, as does another developer in New Zealand, but the complaints are from European users.

Perhaps related to bug 38927, which mentions the same behaviour.

The firefox bug reference is https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=822216

Example headers from the Firefox bug, in case it helps track down the config problem:

We've closed our issue, since refreshing the cache seems to have fixed it. Please look over the log and see if this is a recurring problem, though.
