(Ubuntu 12.10 running Chrome) Viewing clips such as http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Impact_of_Wikipedia_-_Srikeit_Tadepalli_and_Noopur_Raval.webm - the built-in video player stops dead almost every time, after about 100 seconds. Stopping and restarting, and manually seeking back to around that time works, and playback restarts and finishes without a problem.
The file plays fine for me in Firefox 20 nightly on Mac OS X, but froze at 1:12 (72 seconds) in Chrome 23. Playing the 480P WebM version.
plays fine here with Chromium 22 (Ubuntu 12.10), Chrome 25 (Ubuntu 12.10), Chrome 23 (Max OS X) for the 480P WebM version.
My Chrome is version 23 too.
does it also hang if you play the video directly? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9e/The_Impact_of_Wikipedia_-_Srikeit_Tadepalli_and_Noopur_Raval.webm/The_Impact_of_Wikipedia_-_Srikeit_Tadepalli_and_Noopur_Raval.webm.480p.webm
Yes, it hangs when playing directly from upload.wikimedia.org as well. It then played smoothly when reloaded. I cleared the browser cache and it stopped playing again. Cleared the cache again and tried again to play from within Commons, and it stopped again. Note this is not a network latency issue -- I'm on the WMF LAN.
fwiw I could watch the video until the end without problems with Chromium Version 22.0.1229.94 Ubuntu 12.10 (161065) Aurora Firefox for Ubuntu 19.0a2 (2012-12-21)
If you still encounter hanging videos please reopen with additional information. This could have been some issue with the proxy infrastructure that got resolved or client side network issues. If there is a way to reproduce it on other systems it might be possible to find the cause.
