Created attachment 11613 [details] Watchlist with no images loaded Most page images aren't loading in the watchlist All or Modified view. See screenshots from my watchlist; most of these are articles that do have images that should be loading.
* Correction: some images do load, but I've only ever seen one at a time (like Animal Farm in the screenshot above). If this is a huge, thorny performance issue, we should just disable this feature for the time being, rather than leaving that big empty white space with the occasional image loaded.
As I understand it the PageImages extension has to index articles which takes some time. Max will be able to provide feedback on this. We should probably have an image for articles that have no image or an unindexed one though...
I emailed about it last time: no less than a week.
"Populating this data is an excruciatingly expensive process. The image information gets populated as pages or templates they transclude are edited. Currently, on enwiki, the number of pages without PageImages data is: select count(*) from page where page_namespace=0 and page_is_redirect=0 and page_touched < '20121229000000'; +----------+ | count(*) | +----------+ | 2336771 | +----------+ 1 row in set (16.40 sec) That's a lot. My plan is to wait more for this number to decrease to a reasonable size then update the remaining pages with a script. That's at least one week from now."
what would be a reasonable size Max? Bug wranglers edit more so we can get this bug resolved ;)
