On Firefox 16.02 on Ubuntu, I see the red notification count badge next to many elements in the flyout.

To reproduce:
Log out.
Use anon user to edit your talk page.
Log in.
Click notifications badge

I only see it the first time I visit the flyout after logging in. On the 2nd and subsequent views it looks normal.

Note, screenshot is from my dev install.  I have not been able to reproduce the same bug on the mediawiki.org install with the same OS/Browser combo.
