Trying to add a 'date of birth' to [http://wikidata-test-repo.wikimedia.de/wiki/Q151 Snorri Sturluson] on the test wiki. Unfortunately we only have his year of birth - 1179 - so I entered that and selected "custom value" but the save option didn't work.

I also tried
[1179]
[][][1179]
[00][00][1179]
[01][01][1179]

None of these worked

I am using Chrome 24.0.1312.57 on a MAC with OS X 10.8.2

This is a problem with how the date of birth property was set up. It is set to item as you can see at http://wikidata-test-repo.wikimedia.de/wiki/Property:P33 and not a date. So this means you can only add other items there and not dates.
