Description atsirlin 2013-02-05 18:09:21 UTC
Please, modify LocalSettings.php on Russian Wikivoyage. The $wgSitename variable should read as "Путеводитель Викигид Wikivoyage", so that the Russian name "Викигид" and the Russian word "путеводитель" (travel guide) are included in the page title and, eventually, recognized by search engines. Presently, we experience huge problems with Google and other engines that do not recognize Russian Wikivoyage as a travel guide. Thank you!

Has there been any community discussion about this change? Can you point me to a relevan thread in a local village pump, noticeboard or mailing list?

Changing $wgSitename is quite a big deal for a wiki, so I would like to be sure there is enough community support to include that change.

I see there was a short discussion about this in the ru.wikivoyage Village pump — CC'ing Yaroslaw so he can confirm whether "Путеводитель Викигид Wikivoyage" makes sense as a $wgSitename for this project.

Thanks for the notice. Yes, I think it makes pretty much sense indeed, for the search engines. (Having said this, I have absolutely no idea about how difficult would it be to change $wgSitename and whether it could affect smth else).

Assuming that this has been resolved per community comments during the February discussion, and that the bug as such is not needed since there are no further comments on this—please feel free to reopen if that's not the case.

Note You need to log in before you can comment on or make changes to this bug.
