It already does: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Mainpage/it

I just tried once again with FF and Chrome and if I am *not logged in* typing in the address bar:
http://it.wikidata.org
gets you redirected to:
http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Main_Page
while I would expect to be redirected to:
http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Pagina_principale

Please note that if I am logged in everything works fine and typing
http://it.wikidata.org
gets me in the right page (following the language selector, i.e. if I chose English and then type http://it.wikidata.org I get to Wikidata:Main Page, whilst if I chose Italian I get to Wikidata:Pagina principale.

I think this will take a bit more apache and squid magic or something to make it work.

For example, it.wikidata.org could redirect to the main page.

it.wikidata.org/wiki/Roma should redirect to www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q220

Ideally, we have some kind of magic for other project pages and such, although that probably will be done more in the future.

The other two are probably more doable in the nearer term.

it would be enough if it.wikidata.org(/wiki)?/? redirected to www.wikidata.org/?uselang=it , to pick the correct main page.
Proper solution is enabling UniversalLanguageSelector for anons.

This bug applies to all language subdomains, not just it. We want to redirect anything that is not www. to a new .php file as in:
