Description Quim Gil 2013-02-25 23:04:53 UTC
The Commons app for Android offers a login screen at start but it is quite customary in these situations to offer a possibility for new users to register.

PS: also related, it is not clear whether a user of e.g; English Wikipedia that has never logged in to Commons can use her Wikipedia credentials to log in or if her account needs to be enabled first in Commons as global account.

Note that this work is planned, but pending the introduction of an API to register users (no we do not have one for that right now)
Comment 2 Quim Gil 2013-02-25 23:15:06 UTC
It wouldn't be the first app I see sending a user to register using a plain URL link... Better then nothing.

Still, noit that as a Wikipedia-only user I wouldn't even be sure whether I'm supposed to register at Commons or not before logging in. Of course they can just try.
Comment 3 Yuvi Panda 2013-02-25 23:16:12 UTC
That is true. SUL can be confusing. Will poke around to see what is the best way to do this.
Comment 4 Shankar 2013-02-27 09:30:41 UTC
the mockup[1]shows the new additions in the login screen and the start of a tutorial post creating an account.

Siude comment: is the font size of those mockups appropriate? They look a lot smaller than the average app.
Comment 6 Quim Gil 2013-02-27 18:17:57 UTC
More side comments:

- White font on top of not-too dark background doesn't help readability either.

- Capitalization Of Every Word? These are not newspaper headlines.

- Too long texts, bring more work to the user (reading) and to translators, with risk of not fitting in one line etc.

"Enter a Desired Username" ---> "Username"
"Don't have an account? ---> "Signup"

All these are pretty standard steps. Check e.g. Facebook or Twitter mobile signup / signin workflow for more references.

Switch to Android component.
Comment 8 Dan Garry 2014-09-22 20:30:20 UTC
As the Mobile Apps Team is focussing on the new, native Wikipedia app, the Commons app is no longer being maintained by the Wikimedia Foundation. I am WONTFIXing all open Commons app bugs to reflect that we will not be spending time fixing them.
