The linker only rewrites links for the special pages. This is due to a test that stops the rewrite process unless the context is a special page. If we remove this test the linker will rewrite links everywhere. That would make it simpler for the users at Wikidata as they will not have to use the pipe-form in a lot of cases, but it could also have nasty side effects.

I think we should investigate if we should turn the rewrite of links on for all pages, and if so get a sense of where and how it breaks.
