the article count for the English Wikipedia is currentlygiven as 795,651, which is obviously not correct.
 
(On the other had, http://stats.wikimedia.org/EN/TablesWikipediaEN.htm
has it right with "4.1 M".)

Regional reports have not been generated for a long time. The fix is probably not that complicated (bash issue?) but a prerequisite for vetting the numbers by comparing above mentioned reports.
