Could there be a link to open the message separately? (Like in the old interface, when you click the message name in the left column). It could e.g. be there in the top-left corner when a message is opened, where the title is written anyway (like "FreeCol:Freecol.desktopEntry.Comment/tet", or "Translations:Help:FAQ/78/de"). I would find this sometimes helpful to access the "full" editing window, with special characters etc.).
Likely closely related: While a direct link is there for /qqq, it is lacking or not funtionning for helper languages. It is not uncommon to spot minor glitches or typing errors in those translations. There should be a quick and easy way to fix them.
If this is not done, <https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Support/Writing_special_characters_in_the_new_interface> needs a new solution. Other threads on the topic: <https://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Support/TUX:_Opening_the_message_separately> <https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Thread:Support///translatewiki.net/w/i.php%3Ftitle%3DSpecial:Translate%26group%3Dcore%26filter%3D%26action%3Dtranslate_msg_seconds-abbrev> This may get rejected, but for now I'm raising priority because it's one of the most common requests and it needs to be addressed.
Niklas notes on a different thread: "There is a link via detour near the message title in the dropdown (click history and then edit)".
