I have the {{Columns-start|num=4}} markup in place, and it works fine until the window is wide enough so that all 4 columns can show.

At that point, there is a misalignment.

That's probably something to report in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template_talk:Columns-start and to fix on-wiki - it's a template there.

The default way would be http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:List#Multi-column_lists
