Description #Reaper 2013-04-14 12:13:05 UTC
Hi there,
If I enter for example "Wikipedia:Projekt Fotoflüge" into the search of Wikidata, I get redirected to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projekt_Fotoflüge , what is completely absurd and make it's hard to find an item for wikipedia/project pages.
Thank you,
#Reaper

Thanks for taking the time to report this!

Assuming you talk about the search on https://www.wikidata.org/ , which behavior did you expect?
Comment 2 Kunal Mehta (Legoktm) 2013-04-23 19:04:47 UTC
Confirming this bug.

Normally if you type an interwiki prefix + : + something in the search box, it will take you to "something" on the remote sight. The issue is that on Wikidata, there could be a item with the label "Wikipedia:Important stuff" that you are searching for, however the Wikipedia-interwiki-prefix will override your search query.

As a sidenote, this isn't the first instance of interwiki-prefixes conflicting with Wikidata, see bug 44536 comment 17.

Ugh typos. s/remote sight/remote site/
Comment 4 #Reaper 2013-04-23 19:37:30 UTC
Hi,
sorry, I've forgotten your post/email. Legoktm described the problem which I mean. As I noticed the bug only appears if I use the search box on the top, using the larger search form on the top of the search itself doesn't redirect me too the en-wp (like described above).
Seems like another problem:
But - maybe only in the moment - it doesn't find the item Q10931988 if I search for "Wikipedia:Projekt Fotoflüge". (What was a bad example due to its German only, I'm sorry.) With "Wikipedia:Belege" or "Wikipedia:Verifiability" it works fine using the larger search box. It seems if there is a problem with the German letter Ü, without the whole word "Fotoflüge" it works.

Greetings,
#Reaper

Daniel, Katie: Can you say if there is anything we can do about this?

WFM: https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearch&search=Wikipedia%3AProjekt+Fotofl%C3%BCge&fulltext=Ricerca
So I assume you're talking of the so-called "go" search rather than the search which is appropriate here i.e. full-text search ("containing..." option if you use the Vector search bar). Still, with the current summary this bug is clearly INVALID. I suppose it should be renamed to something like "Make it easier to find items containing labels beginning with interwiki prefixes"?
Comment 7 #Reaper 2013-11-27 21:28:19 UTC
Um.. you are correct, I mean the "Go" search. But saying only to "make it easier" is misleading, because the Go search is completely unusable in this way. It's only usable if you know the completely correct and full page name *and* know the arrow on the right side of the Go search. Otherwise you will always end on the enwiki. I don't see an practicable way to get to the full-text search - where this search works. (The current summary you added is good, no need to change it again.)
Comment 8 John F. Lewis 2014-04-09 23:45:04 UTC
Confirmed this is still happening.
Comment 9 Vogone 2014-04-10 16:14:08 UTC
Changed severity back to "enhancement", assuming it was changed to "normal" by accident.
