Hi Umar, please stop adding the same comment again and again.

For any configuration change, we require a local consensus. Was this matter discussed on the Village pump page of your wiki to confirm that this change is wanted by the community? If so, please paste the link to the discussion here.
For more information about how to request these kinds of changes, please see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requesting_wiki_configuration_changes and feel free to forward that link to others who may want similar changes made in the future. Thanks!

Comment 14 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-05-06 20:14:52 UTC
This is a huge no-go until proper community consensus can be shown for those changes — please reopen this bug only when such consensus is gathered.

[FYI: There is currently a big, controversial & very emotional debate among the Chechen Wikipedia community about how to write in 'proper' Chechen language (something about grammar, transliteration, influence of Russian, etc — believe me, you don't want to get involved in it.]

Comment 23 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-05-18 12:32:39 UTC
I'm having trouble understanding what's being requested here.

cewiki has only a limited configuration in our InitialiseSettings.php:

    $wgMetaNamespace => array(
        (...)
        'cewiki' => 'Википедийа',
    ),

    (...)

    $wgNamespaceAliases => array(
        (...)
        '+cewiki' => array( 'Wikipedia' => NS_PROJECT, ),
    ),

    (...)

    $wgExtraNamespaces => array(
        'cewiki' => array(
	      100 => 'Ков',
              101 => 'Ков_дийцаре',
        ),
    ),

I have no idea what the Cyrillic characters mean, but as far as I see, you might want to translate stuff in Translatewiki.net instead of requesting changes here, except for the $wgMetaNamespace and some aliases.

Please provide an English translation for those namespaces so that those of us who cannot read Cyrillic or understand Chechen could help.
Comment 24 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-05-18 12:34:31 UTC
[ Changing component into 'Site requests' per above comment, adding 'shell' since there is enough community consensus. ]

I see that those are already translated into Chechen[1], but they haven't been deployed yet — unfortunately, this is something that I cannot influence, you just got to wait.

From all the namespaces you mentioned, I can only help with localising 'Wikipedia' and 'Wikipedia_talk', will submit a Gerrit patch in a few minutes' time.

BTW,

    > Use Google-translate. Is it so hard?

This does not help.

I'm also using this opportunity to change $wgSitename for this wiki; it doesn't make too much sense to change $wgMetaNamespace and leave $wgSitename as it was.
Comment 32 Oleg 2013-05-18 20:26:36 UTC
Tomasz and other technicians, can you write more humanly? What is wgSitename, wgMetaNamespace, and wgSitename? Do you think that simple users must know all those technical terms? And why can't you just correct erroneous messages?
Comment 33 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-05-18 20:54:06 UTC
Hi Oleg,
thanks for the comment and apologies for using such an enigmatic language—I didn't realise it wasn't understandable.

$wgSitename is the MediaWiki variable that defines the name of the site; when you go to https://ce.wikipedia.org, the title of the page (as seen in your browser) is "Коьрта агlо — Википедийа"; my fix will change that into "Коьрта агlо — Википеди".

$wgMetaNamespace, on the other hand, is the variable that defines the name of the project namespace; on English Wikipedia, for example, it is "Wikipedia" (as in [[Wikipedia:Five pillars]]), and on your Wikipedia it's currently "Википедийа" — and my patch will change that into "Википеди". As you see, $wgSiteName and $wgMetaNamespace are similar most of the time, that's why I think it'd be better to use the opportunity to change both.

As for the other namespaces (File:, Template:, and Category:), they are defined by the MediaWiki software itself, and are not localised by us (Wikimedia community) — this way, non-Wikimedia projects can benefit from our work. Unfortunately, this approach — translating namespace names on Translatewiki.net — means that all translations have to be deployed by Translatewiki staff, which takes some time.

My Gerrit change #64501 will be visible on-line the moment it's approved and merged into our git repository (you'll be able to link to the new Wikipedia namespace using [[Википеди:XYZ]]), but the other changes will only follow in a couple of days/weeks.
Comment 34 Umar 2013-05-19 00:09:33 UTC
Sorry if you do not znes is where I have to ask them to fix errors on translatewiki.net I changed everything. The issue here is whether or not I was denied? I wait for the correction of errors?
Comment 35 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-05-19 12:46:15 UTC
As I said, it's not a matter of your edits being denied or not — it's just that with so many languages and projects, getting your translations on-line takes some time.

I'm not a specialist in Translatewiki.net procedures, so you might want to ask Siebrand <https://translatewiki.net/wiki/User_talk:Siebrand> or Niklas <https://translatewiki.net/wiki/User_talk:Nike> for details.
Comment 36 Umar 2013-05-20 14:50:36 UTC

You are aware that every time you post things to this bug, seven people are getting e–mails? What is that you want to achieve by adding comments here?

As I already wrote in comment 38, from my point of view this bug is fixed (hence the resolution) — you now need to wait for the translations from Translatewiki.net to be deployed, which posting comments here will not influence.
Comment 46 Umar 2013-05-22 09:45:36 UTC

Comment 47 Umar 2013-05-28 06:50:09 UTC
translatewiki.net site updated but the name of the spaces have not changed.
Comment 48 Andre Klapper 2013-05-28 09:01:11 UTC
Comment 45 said: "you now need to wait for the translations from Translatewiki.net to be ***deployed*** (emphasis by me), which posting comments here will not influence."
Hence updates on translatewiki.net site are unrelated. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.22/Roadmap is probably what you are after.
Comment 50 Andre Klapper 2013-06-03 07:18:29 UTC
Umar: If you have a *specific* issue after reading the previous comments and explanations how things work, then please explain it here properly.
Don't add useless "I is not funny" comments that don't explain anything.
Bugzilla is not a forum and you have been warned. Thanks.
Comment 51 Umar 2013-06-03 07:23:15 UTC
I would like to know the errors are not corrected for technical reasons, or who just do not do it and how much time you have to wait? I hope not months. thank you.
Comment 52 Andre Klapper 2013-06-03 08:20:33 UTC
Explained already in comment 48. See the link posted there for deployment schedule. If some sentence is unclear, please name the exact sentence and why.
Comment 53 Mark A. Hershberger 2013-06-08 22:23:48 UTC
According to the schedule pointed to in comment 48, the last full deployment was made three days ago.

Comment #29 seems to indicate that the updates were made on TWN 3 weeks ago. My understanding is that changes accepted 3 weeks ago in TWN should have been deployed by now.

What am I missing?
Comment 54 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-06-09 00:13:17 UTC

Comment 58 Umar 2013-06-15 20:56:33 UTC
Who renames space? You know how much time has passed since I gave zpros. I do not know how to wait for one to turn where you can ask for help. Where is the main site?
Comment 59 Mark A. Hershberger 2013-06-15 21:02:01 UTC
(In reply to comment #58)
> Who renames space?

I think any user with shell privileges could do this. This usually means people in #wikimedia-operations on IRC.

> You know how much time has passed since I gave zpros.

Do not be too surprised. Wikimedia is always trying to improve, but they, like many NGOs, are under-staffed and under-funded for these sorts of things.

> I do
> not know how to wait for one to turn where you can ask for help. Where is the
> main site?

Main site for what? Wikipedia problem requests? This is it.
Comment 60 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-06-15 21:04:04 UTC
(In reply to comment #59)

> I think any user with shell privileges could do this. This usually means
> people in #wikimedia-operations on IRC.

Technically, probably, but practically, these messages are updated by Translatewiki.net staff. We're still waiting for them to update the relevant files.
Comment 61 Mark A. Hershberger 2013-06-15 21:22:04 UTC
My understanding is that twn will only be able to modify languages/messages/MessagesCe.php. Could you examine this file and see if that file is the right place to modify these settings? https://git.wikimedia.org/blob/mediawiki%2Fcore.git/cf86c74e2ad2e6ffc575056df180028e40c768cd/languages%2Fmessages%2FMessagesCe.php

InitializeSettings.php appears to already reflect the requests made in this bug: https://git.wikimedia.org/blob/operations%2Fmediawiki-config.git/9b7a5096ca2ce316b6c8a6f3ef8014352d782774/wmf-config%2FInitialiseSettings.php

I'm just going to ignore this bug from now on.
Comment 64 Oleg 2013-06-17 21:51:32 UTC
Umar is a kind of persistent man :-), this is true. But problem is in Wikimedia Foundation's bureaucracy - some changes you must fixing here, some there and finally nothing changes for months. Many rules in many projects, rules that only understand few people. For example, I also asked to change namespaces in bxr.wikipedia, all of them already translated by proffesional Buryat linguists in 2011. But what I see? I see the answer: find the editors for Translatewiki, they'll translate system messages and only after that we'll change the Namespaces. For what? Why is this system so hard and incomprehensible?
Comment 65 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-06-27 14:30:35 UTC
@Siebrand, Niklas: getting these changes deployed is taking ridiculously long. (Just sayin'.)
Comment 66 Niklas Laxström 2013-06-27 14:50:30 UTC
They are committed [1] and on a schedule to be deployed in the following 7 days or so.

We are trying our best to do the many things we have on our plate. We have to give lower priority to some things. If that is too slow, I am sorry. Perhaps if we had more people helping with administrative things at translatewiki.net, then we could have more time to do namespace exports more often and/or improve the exporting process to make it less time consuming.

Marking fixed. This bug is in Site requests, so supposedly there may be something else to do among the 66 confusing comments so far; open a new bug in a week or so if there's something else to do.
Comment 68 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-06-27 14:57:35 UTC
This is not how things work round here: bugs are marked as RESOLVED FIXED (or sometimes VERIFIED FIXED) when the changes are deployed on the live wiki.
Comment 69 Andre Klapper 2013-06-28 17:23:19 UTC
RESOLVED FIXED means that a fix has been committed and merged into the codebase. It is unrelated to deployment of the code change on Wikimedia servers.
Comment 71 Niklas Laxström 2013-07-02 10:46:02 UTC
Yes they are in 1.22wmf9 branch. I said originally 7 days of so, but I was not aware then that this week is skipped in deployments due to holidays, so 7 or more days still.

Thanks for the reply. Regards Umar.

Comment 74 Tomasz W. Kozlowski 2013-07-11 19:33:28 UTC
Would you please clarify what you mean?
