On https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&type=signup&returnto=Main+Page&useNew=1 On the same line as "Username" there's the phrase "(help me choose)" with a link to the Username policy to help users decide what username to pick. I like this link, but the behaviour when I click on it is unexpected. When I click on it I'd expect it to open in a new tab, or ideally show me that information on the same page. Instead I'm taken away from the account creation interface and to the username policy page, with no apparent way back, which could stop people from getting back to creating an account!
There is no way I know to make links open in a new tab (CSS 3 supposedly adds it as target-new, but I don't know if the support is there). However, we could open it in a new window, which users can configure to mean "new tab". For a tooltip option, see bug 47530.
Yeah I think we're going to go with 47530 as the enhancement here, instead. Marking it as a duplicate instead of WONTFIX so that it's linked to that bug. For what it's worth, in usability tests users *do* know how to use the browser back button or click "Create account" again. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 47530 ***
