It's impossible to copy & paste text from the original message (at least here under Firefox 20.0.1), because text cannot be properly selected there. It would be useful for copying e.g. links directly into the translation, and also for functions like looking up a word in a dictionary.
I bumped into this problem too.
MF-Warburg, it would be useful if you included steps to reproduce the problem, I don't remember myself where it happened to me exactly.
I was already about to close the bug as magically fixed, because I couldn't reproduce it either, but now found it: It occurs when opening a message for translation from page view.
To clarify: You want to select the source text in the page mode without opening the editor?

In page mode, when you select text, as soon as you complete the selection (release the left mouse button), it is unselected so you can't do anything with the selection.
Steps to reproduce: 1. Go to URL 2. Click on the first message 3. Try to select source text Observed: I. Once selected, the text immediately gets unselected. Expected: II. Text remains selected, so that it can be put in the copy buffer.
