Description Michelle Grover 2013-05-07 00:18:22 UTC
We have disabled Javascript on RL and the placeholder function does not work on Opera Mini so when you switched from stable to alpha and beta the placeholder in the Search box does not update.

Test Case:

Using Opera Mini Browser open Mobile Web
Under Settings select beta mode
Go to the Home page and the search bar is still blank

Found this today but decided to make this a lower priority bug.

For the records, that's bug 47572.

I don't see the value in support opera mini placeholder attribute. It's possible but implementations of placeholder shims tend to be buggy and hard to maintain and require javascript which we do not run in Opera mini.

I think we should really instead find a better way to brand our stable/beta/alpha modes - e.g. using a background image fallback maybe just for these users.

https://wikimedia.mingle.thoughtworks.com/projects/mobile/cards/1512 when implemented will stop this from being a problem without any additional work so closing as WONTFIX
