Description dr0ptp4kt 2013-05-30 18:37:45 UTC
It would be nice to be able to choose whether to store images to an SD card.

Hmm, for saving of photos you take on the device with the camera, or to sync a copy of all your uploaded images that can be accessed via the gallery (like Apple's photostream maybe)?

Syncing all images could be expensive; some folks have thousands of images and original files can be quite large in some cases.

I'd rather respond to 'fetch image' intents (I forget the actual action name, but the one we use when fetching from camera/gallery/etc) which would let us fetch things over the network before reexporting them.

I was thinking more for the case of saving of photos taken on the device with the camera. Save to SD card seems to be something Android users clamor for.

Ok... I'm not sure exactly what happens with photos you take with the camera straight from the app, will have to check. (On iOS we save photos to your camera roll as you take them, which would be similar to what you're asking for I think).

Note there's also a 'download' feature in the detail view which pulls the original-size file into your 'downloads' directory on the SD card. This is exposed to the 'Gallery' app so is pretty handy.

As the Mobile Apps Team is focussing on the new, native Wikipedia app, the Commons app is no longer being maintained by the Wikimedia Foundation. I am WONTFIXing all open Commons app bugs to reflect that we will not be spending time fixing them.
