For logged in user, can there be a formatting preference to display [edit | edit source] as [edit source | edit]? --J. D. Redding 18:47, 3 July 2013 (UTC)

The user finds it frustrating that he keeps inadvertently selecting "edit"
Comment 1 James Forrester 2013-07-03 21:17:34 UTC
We can do this, but I don't think it's as high priority as a number if others. Marking as such.
Comment 2 Timeshifter 2013-07-04 00:17:39 UTC
I think it is a fairly high priority. It would keep a lot of users (such as me) from turning off the visual editor altogether. Many people are turning off the VE due to this problem. More and more people are saying this here:
[[Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback]]

I want instant direct access to the "edit source" link. I want the "edit" link to be the one that is hidden.

Better yet would be an option to display both links directly without any hover effects. When I want to click either link I do not want to waste one millisecond finding the link, or thinking I may screw up again, and hit the wrong link.

Think gaming, ping, lag time, and even slightly experienced Wikipedia editors wanting to get things done faster.

I agree that we need to resolve this somehow, since the current hover interface has also been pointed out as a problem on touch devices (e.g. tablets).
Comment 4 Bartosz Dziewoński 2013-07-08 23:09:43 UTC
A better solution would be the one suggested at bug 50540.
Comment 5 MZMcBride 2013-09-26 15:29:01 UTC
I don't think a user preference is appropriate here.

Given the resolution of bug 50540, I'm not sure there's anything actionable here.
