Description Chris McMahon 2013-07-19 17:24:52 UTC
on test2wiki https://test2.wikipedia.org append ?tour=gettingstarted to any page.

Follow the prompts, but do not edit the page at all.

Upon saving the null edit the 'Looking for more to do' guider appears.

In the past, null edits have not triggered the 'Looking for more to do' guider, only actual changes to the page should trigger that.

This seems to be a regression of Bug 46168

Not exactly like Bug 46168, but I do think we've seen this before.

Cannot replicate error in production (enwiki). If this is specific to a particular browser please note it and I'll retest.

Note that the best way to test this is by making a normal edit with the tour enabled by visiting Special:GettingStarted while logged in, accepting a task, and clicking "Show help" before editing. Using the URL parameter to force the tour may produce behavior not seen in production, depending on how a tour is triggered.

Steven, did you test the gettingstarted tour or only the toolbar version (gettingstartedtasktoolbarve)?

If the latter, we should keep this open until we track it down or remove gettingstarted (which we can probably do when the generic first edit tour is merged).

I tested what is being served to users on enwiki post-registration. Those are gettingstartedtasktoolbarintro and gettingstartedtasktoolbarve. I'm don't understand why we would bother to run tests and report bugs against tours not being served to users.

I can't reproduce on test2 or locally, testing with fresh cookies. Note, test2 currently doesn't have VE (though I'm not sure why since the settings indicate it does). This tour is not intended for VE.

Closing for non-repro. Looking over the history of the browser test failures, we had glitchy behavior on test2wiki with GuidedTour on 18 and 19 July but no failures since the 19th.

I'll open a new bug if this turns up again.
