Description Silke Meyer (WMDE) 2013-07-23 16:31:44 UTC
The project "bots" is obsolete (https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Nova_Resource:Bots). The new experimental project is "toolsbeta" so it makes sense to introduce a component for it. (As "tools" also has its own component.)
Comment 1 Tim Landscheidt 2013-07-23 16:35:38 UTC
While I support obsoleting Bots, I don't think we need a new component for Toolsbeta. It's only used by admins for testing instance settings.
Comment 2 Andre Klapper 2013-07-24 08:54:46 UTC
This bug report seems to cover to aspects.

As Petr is the default assignee for "Wikimedia Labs > bots", waiting for his comment. We could edit the component description of "bots" to mention that it has been superseded by toolsbeta", or close it for entering new bug reports, if that is actually wanted.

If there is agreement for creating a new Bugzilla component for toolsbeta, I am happy to do so. Required information is listed here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bug_management/Project_Maintainers#To_add_a_project_or_component
In that case feel free to move this ticket to "Wikimedia > Bugzilla".
Comment 3 Peter Bena 2013-07-24 08:56:35 UTC
Don't remove bot component until bots project is gone
Comment 4 Silke Meyer (WMDE) 2013-07-26 10:14:01 UTC
OK, but do we have to wait for a component "toolsbeta" until then and can we have it already now?
Comment 5 Andre Klapper 2013-07-26 10:45:00 UTC
I can create it if it is wanted, see comment 2. (One source of confusion is that this bug report covers two issues, while it should only cover one.)
Comment 6 Tim Landscheidt 2013-08-02 02:45:06 UTC

What do we need a component "toolsbeta" for?
Comment 7 Tim Landscheidt 2013-08-03 20:44:56 UTC
Per petan's comment #3, we should wait until the Bots project is gone. So let's close this report for the moment, and reopen it when the component is truly obsolete :-).
