Otherwise broken links are generated.

Repro:

1. Go to https://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/MediaWiki:About/kk
2. Select any variant from the variant dropdown list
3. It's an HTTP 404 page.

"Variant aliases" section refers to the one in https://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/highlight.php?file=main.conf . Ctrl+F for "# Variant aliases".
