Description Matthew Flaschen 2013-08-15 18:45:14 UTC
When I test GettingStarted in Sauce's Windows 7, IE 8 it never sends it to an actual article.

For example, it just renders the task choice page when you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:GettingStarted/task/clarify&source=gettingstarted . The same happens if you to Special:GettingStarted and just click a button.

I haven't tested other versions yet.

Works on IE 10, on Windows 7 Professional, on an actual computer.

The special page and toolbar next action are working for me in Sauce on Win7, IE8 and IE9. Going to test XP and Win8 as well.

Okay I think I figured this out.

I can replicate this error on IE 7/8 on XP in Sauce. But only as an anonymous user. If I signup for an account the special page works, curiously.

I also get this same error (broken for anons only) on Win8/IE10 and Win7/IE9.

Another strange find: it works fine on my OSX machine in FF, Chrome, and Safari, but on Sauce I get this error also in FF and Chrome on Win8.

We no longer think this is browser-related.
Comment 7 Steven Walling 2013-08-17 03:51:40 UTC
Okay, we tracked down why this is happening.

It turns out the the IPs getting this error are simply blocked, so they're failing the editability check for all task articles and get no response. We'll file separate bugs for enhancements to fix this experience, but technically it is not an error in task generation.
