Now that nfs appears to be fixed, I reconstructed the broken files from my git repo, however, the tool doesn't run:

Probably some file permissions thing, but nothing obvious I could see.

Our webserver set up had only SymLinksIfOwnerMatch turned on, and not FollowSymlinks by default (which is a sane value).

In practice, the former option only provides minimal security value and prevents some useful edge cases like yours (where tools share a directory) and has been switched to the latter.
