Description Romaine 2013-09-05 00:31:00 UTC
Currently we can use {{#language:xx}} to insert the language name in pages, and {{#language:xx|en}} to show language xx in English. Please make such also available for countries, like {{#country:XX}} and {{#country:XX|yy}} with XX replaced by the ISO 3166-1 code of the country and yy the language it should be shown in.

The data is already present in CLDR.
Comment 1 Romaine 2013-09-05 00:58:33 UTC
And with {{#country:XX}} or unknown code at $2 then English as fallback
Comment 2 Siebrand Mazeland 2013-09-18 23:27:44 UTC
Have you considered using Wikidata data for this? It probably has better coverage.
Comment 3 Romaine 2013-09-19 12:16:57 UTC
Yes considered, found ways to do so: no. Main issue: titles of articles are not the same as the to be used text.

I noticed that this data is already available in MediaWiki, as it is used in the CentralNotice system for example.
