Similarly to bug 53862, most wikis don't have a donation system. If you set one up, be it even a simple PayPal account and button, you can surely also take care of editing MediaWiki:Sidebar; for all the others, this is just clutter and configuration annoyance.

Checked with similar sample as bug 53862, 0 uses found.
