Description Laura Hale 2013-09-10 07:52:05 UTC
There is consensus on English Wikinews viewable at https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Water_cooler/proposals#Install_education_extension_on_English_Wikinews to install this extension on the project. We were informed on IRC in #wikimedia-stewards that we should go through bugzilla to make the request for the EducationProgram to be installed.

Hello,

I've started to prepare the configuration.

Thank you to review the Sage Ross' message here and to add in a comment what kind of user rights configuration you want:
https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Wikinews:Water_cooler/proposals#Some_notes_about_the_Education_Program_extension

To review how the others projects configured the group, you can check the following pages:
* https://de.wikiversity.org/wiki/Spezial:Gruppenrechte?uselang=en
* https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ListGroupRights

The EducationProgram rights starts by ep-.

Based on Sage's comments and after discussing this on IRC (our community is pretty small so this works and is allowed), based on our understanding of https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Education_Program/Preferences , no desire for the Did You Know thing. The default "these are all assignable by administrators, and administrators inherit all associated user rights" is acceptable. Mostly admins will be dealing with this while we implement.
Comment 3 Sage Ross 2013-09-11 14:28:16 UTC
Thanks Laura. By default, the Did You Know thing will not do anything. It only becomes active if you put pages into the associated category, [[Category:MyCourses Did You Know]].

So it looks like the default configuration will work fine for you.

Default is fine. :) Created https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Template:Course_page_wizard per comment on Wikinews water cooler. Once we get it up and running, will work on creating better support pages. At the moment, we have one class. We plan to do some experimentation using accredited reporters as a cohort in the interim. We will also see if we can't reach out to the Wiki Ed group to see if the presence of the extension might make it easier for them to point relevant courses at us (Wikinews and The Wikinewsie Group) and for us to do work together.
