project should be able to define where cron related emails are sent, right now it just sends it to the user account which requires a login and running the mail command. Kinda defeats the purpose of email....

That's default behavior; you can enable mail forwarding by writing an email address to the ~/.forward file (as a user or tool account).

I fail to see how the current behavior is problematic.
