Some code is already available, but not the policy on how to update the links. We have several sources: -interwiki links to articles on the Commons category -interwiki links to categoires on the Commons category -interwiki links to articles at the Wikipedia article -interwiki links to categories at the Wikipedia category Not clear how to deal with this. We don't want bots constantly changing the links at a Commons category because multiple categories at some Wikipedia link to the same Commons category. Interwiki conflicts are probably going to be a source of problems too.
A solution might be: \- Wikipedia article => Commons category \- Wikipedia category => Commons category \- Commons gallery => Wikipedia article \(Commons article = Commons gallery\)
and Commons category => Wikipedia article
I would be a great help if commonscats and interwiki on Commons were updated af often and "easy" as interwiki-links on the Wikipedia-projects. So I thing it is a great idea.
