Description Bawolff (Brian Wolff) 2013-11-01 23:18:28 UTC
I would expect the image name at the top of the lightbox would be a link to the image description page. I would also expect the image thumbnail to link there (that might just be training from previous case). In any case its not immediately obvious how to get to the commons description page, it takes a bit of hunting to find the link.

Thanks, Brian.

I like your idea of making the file name go to the File info page, and will suggest it to Pau Giner, our designer.

I have also recommended to our designers that the link to Wikimedia Commons be a bit more prominent.

Note that the 'Licensing Info' label also links to that file info page.

So that would be three links to that page, if we implement your file name link idea.

I do not recommend that clicking on the image take you to file info page, as we may want to use it to trigger other image-related functions -- such as going to the full-screen mode, or going to the next image in a series of images.

I will let Pau respond to these ideas, from a designer's perspective.

I like the idea of that going to full screen mode on image click. I think the main reason I tried clicking on the image was historic, nothing in the interface suggested that doing that would get to the image description page.

I think it would be a good design choice to switch to using the image for fullscreen toggle - it would solve an issue with the new design we're planning on using.

Linking to the file page with the file title would be a very sane way to do things, I say we go for that.
