Recently, the OpenDyslectic font was enabled optionally on the Wikimedia projects. Great initiative. However, the way to activate this font is quite obscure. Currently, you have to find the ´other languages´ section (scroll down and look at the left side of the article) and click on the 'wheel' icon next to it. Then, they have to click some button inside a popup to get to the fond selection menu. While intuitively, I would expect to be able to access this function via the User Preferences menu, specifically via the Appearance tab. This is a request to make it possible to access the Universal Language Selector via the Preferences (Ideally via the Appearance tab, but possibly via one of the two catch-all tabs).
Hello, the ULS dialog is also available through the user preferences. You will have to navigate to Preferences -> User Profile. The 'More language settings' link will display this screen. Additionally, for the benefit of our users the ULS cog provides a reduced navigational path to enable the OpenDyslexic font. More information here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dyslexic_readers I am closing this bug for now. Please don't hesitate to let us know if this is not the solution you were looking for. Thanks.
Allright, well hidden if that was the intention :) I spent 10 minutes searching for it, and I knew what I was searching for. I think the only things in that popup menu currently not directly available in the preferences, are the font setting and the writing language. Wouldn't it make more sense to include those directly, rather than 2 further clicks away?
The ULS provides language-related tools closer to where they are needed. Users can change input and display settings without leaving the current page. It is true that some users are used to look for these things on settings. The purpose of the "more language options" link on the settings is to (a) provide those users with access to the language settings, but also to (b) introduce the ULS so that those users can access it next time they need language tools. Replicating all options in settings makes preferences even more crowded (we should consider that the ULS is designed to be extensible, so new language options may be added in the future).
