Description anjana 2013-11-16 04:24:37 UTC
OS: Win 8
Browser: Fire Fox 24 and Chrome 31.0

Not able to insert an image in VE mode on Beta. The image (A nice pic.jpg) which is on commons is not seen in the list while trying to upload it using the "Media" in the toolbar (found in "More" pulldown menu)in "Edit Beta mode".

The same image is uploadable using wikitext syntax [[File:A Nice pic.jpg]].

Thanks for taking the time to report this!

Could you please provide exact steps, click by click, to reproduce the problem, so anybody else could follow these steps and get the same results?

Steps to reproduce:

Pre-requisites: Create an account in http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org

1. Login with username and password into http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/User:<username>
2. On the topmost right-hand side of the page, click on "preferences"
3. Click on the "Beta Features" tab and select "VisualEditor"
4. Click on "Save" at the end of the page. You must see a message saying "Your preferences have been changed".
5. Click on <your username>. Your username will be found on the topmost right-hand side of the page.
6. Click on "Edit beta" , found on the top right-hand side next to "Edit Source".
7. On the toolbar, click on "More" pull-down menu and click on "Media"
8. Search for "A nice picture.jpg". [Here, we are looking for an image of "cave 26,ajanta caves"]
9. The intended image is not found.

But, this can be found with wikitext i.e, without VisualEditor.
1. Click on "Edit Source"
2. Type [[File:A nice picture.jpg]] on the page.
3. Click on "Save Page" tab at the bottom of the page.
4. Result: You will be able to see the intended image.

Re-titling this and putting back into the Wikimedia / Search area, as that's where the issue lies; I believe that the new search system fixes this issue, but will leave it for the experts to opine.

This is fixed in Cirrus as far as I know. Inclined to WONTFIX for lsearchd as a result.
