Created attachment 13867 [details] Number of files exactly same as previous version, with same img_description Originally reported at: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Commons:Administrators%27_noticeboard&oldid=110215465#File_uploaded_multiple Phe uploaded a new version of a large (72 mb) file - [[Commons:File:Diderot_-_Encyclopedie_1ere_edition_tome_9.djvu]] via Special:Upload. It appeared as if s/he uploaded it multiple times in the file history, with the differing versions all having the same upload summary, and with timestamps about a minute apart. File is large enough, that one couldn't upload the entire file within a minute, which would rule out somehow uploading the file repetitively (in serial anyways, I suppose some weird browser bug where upload form gets submitted in parallel is possible) User says this has happened more than once (but it started happening recently), and usually only to really big files. User uses firefox 3.6 ---- I did some quick statistics (see attached), and it doesn't seem like there is any sudden spike in number of images that are exact same as previous version. So perhaps not a sudden new thing. Still super weird, and I have no idea what's causing this.
FF 3.6? Seriously? Relatedly, doing an import via CLI will let you upload the exactly the same version of a file multiple times
(In reply to comment #1) > FF 3.6? Seriously? Phe is beating me. Long live firefox 3.5.16... In any case, special:Upload hasn't been touched in years, so I would still expect it to work fine in things like IE6 (*shudder*) > > Relatedly, doing an import via CLI will let you upload the exactly the same > version of a file multiple times You can do it intentionally from the upload form if you want to. The issue is the user didn't mean to upload it multiple times, and it just appeared there multiple times.
