I'm not sure about the expected behavior when they're clicked, but I guess it would be better not show those <ref>s at all.

I would suggest we rewrite the article preview to use the extracts API to avoid these. Would suggest this would be a good task for a volunteer.

So this will get taken care of soon. If anyone wants to remove these features in the meantime go for it.
