Description matanya 2013-12-04 15:01:42 UTC
I need to package a future package for VE and the dev tools deps only made it to raring. Please prepare an image with raring for building and testing this package.

Thanks

Raring is not an LTS. It won't make it into production which will make it pretty hard to support in Labs (we won't have an apt repo for it, it won't get properly handled in puppet, etc. etc.). We'll also have people see it available and start using it for things, like what happened with 11.04, and we'll be stuck with mostly broken instances.

I'd prefer till the 14.04 image is available...

There must be other ways to package this.
Comment 2 Marc A. Pelletier 2013-12-04 18:46:55 UTC
In this particular case, matanya is aware of the fact that Raring cannot move to prod; it's a question of availability of some dev tools and not the endresult that is the objective.

I agree that 14.04 will be better, but my understanding is that this cannot wait five other months so availability of a Raring image is desirable -- we can certainly plaster it with caveats and warn users that this should only be used in special circumstances.
Comment 3 matanya 2013-12-05 03:06:13 UTC
I'm fully aware of the caveats here, i only need some ruby dev tools that didn't make it to 12.04. once the packages i need to test are built there is no need in this anymore.

We will just wait for trusty.
