[[mw:Requests for comment]] Similar to the Bugzilla reporter bot, someone should write and implement a script that is capable of reporting to the wikitech-l mailing list on a weekly basis: * new RFCs * RFC status changes (e.g., in draft --> accepted) This script can be written in any suitable programming language, though PHP or Python would probably be preferable. There are lots of ways to implement this, including parsing the HTML or parsing the wikitext or doing other silly things. The script can be hosted on Wikimedia Labs.
> You have not provided enough detail. > What wikis should such tool target, and what are relevant links to categories. Glossary: MediaWiki RFC = RFC about MediaWiki, happening on mediawiki.org. Can be found at [[mw:RFC]] and use [[mw:Template:RFC]].
(In reply to comment #0) > Similar to the Bugzilla reporter bot This might not be much of a help, but the Bugzilla reporter code is https://git.wikimedia.org/blob/operations%2Fpuppet.git/5981242269963a7b80d9115ad80420710ec3bc1d/templates%2Fmisc%2Fbugzilla_report.php and its output can be found here: http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2013-December/073318.html
I'm not sure we need this. While Bugzilla and Gerrit have thousands of entries and frequently require some kind of quick response, the MediaWiki RFC process is based on dozens of RFCs about strategic steps that usually don't require urgent action. New RFCs could be simply announced in wikitech-l. Most changes of status are happening in RFC meetings with minutes that also go to wikitech-l.

I didn't mean to convey a sense of urgency. The bot could e-mail weekly, fortnightly, or monthly. But I do think better advertising RFCs to wikitech-l would be helpful. > New RFCs could be simply announced in wikitech-l. Many people (myself included) don't do this. I'm hoping automation will help.
